Snow Shoeing is fun for the whole family!  Grand County is no stranger to the excitement of winter sports and what better way to enjoy the beauty of snow and mountains than to experience it first hand!  Whether you are a first timer or an expert there is a trail for you. Rocky Mountain National Park offers a wide varierty of trails to choose from that remain open through the winter months.  The Grand Lake Nordic is an excellent place to begin your snow shoeing adventure and rent your snow shoes if you don't already have them.  They offer miles of terrain that are dog friendly and provide maps that you can view before heading out. Just watch out for moose!

We enjoy snow shoeing because it offers a different experience than snow mobiling, or even skiing.  It really gives you a chance to connect and feel at one with nature, away from the hussle bussle, noise and crowds. Our adventure started with about 4 inches of fresh new snow and a 5 mile round trip trek but it can be enjoyed on a sunny bluebird day or a shorter trail.  We bring camel backs with water that are insulated from the cold so that the tubes don't freeze and somtimes even a few snacks if needed. And of course always be sure to check the weather before heading out and make sure you wear appropriate layers.  Have fun out there!
