Here are the top 5 spring activities in the Grand Lake area:

5 Best Spring Activities in Grand County, CO

#1 - Go Fishing

If you’re visiting the area in late April through early May, it’s the perfect time to go cold water fishing! As Colorado’s largest and deepest natural lake, Grand Lake offers world-class fishing during any season of the year. In the spring, cast your line and snag Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Kokanee Salmon, and more! You’ll need to obtain a fishing license if you are an angler over the age of 16.

#2 – Take a Hike

If you’re looking to stay active during your Grand Lake vacation, you’re in luck! Grand Lake offers several hiking trails that will get your body moving with big rewards like incredible views. Adam Falls is a popular, easy trail that takes about 20-minutes to complete. The total trip is about 0.8 miles out-and-back and offers stunning views of the Rockies and a waterfall! Another great trail to hike is the Coyote Valley Trail as it’s perfect for all ages and skill levels. The trail is 1-mile in length and provides numerous stopping points along the way.

Spring is known as mud season as the snowpack begins to melt this time of year, so remember to pack waterproof hiking boots, wear layers, stay on the trail, and leave no trace! Stay up to date with Rocky Mountain National Park’s closures to plan your hikes accordingly.

#3 – Treat Yourself to a Self-Care Day

And after your hike, we can’t think of a better way to relax your muscles than with a massage or hot spring soak. Grand County offers several traditional day spas throughout the area offering massages, acupuncture, and facials. Or you can drive to Hot Sulphur Springs Resort and Spa, just 30-minutes from Grand Lake and enjoy the 22-mineral indoor/outdoor hot pools and private baths at the resort. The Hot Sulphur Springs Resort and Spa is one of the country’s largest and oldest natural hot mineral springs.

#4 - View Wildlife

One of the best things about spring in Grand Lake County is the renewal of life. Wildflowers are starting to bloom, birds return, and it feels as if everything is coming back to life again. Birding is an extremely popular activity in Grand Lake, so make sure to pack your binoculars and catch glimpses of incredible species like mountain bluebirds, broad-tailed birds, and more. If wildlife watching is what you had in mind, head to Lake Granby where you’ll almost certainly spot an elk, moose, or mule deer.
